Seven years after its establishment, LTHS was accredited by the North Central Association and named one of the top 44 college prep schools in the nation. In , girls' skirts had to touch the floor when they kneeled. If a girl's skirt did not touch the floor, she would be sent home. In , the school day was changed from 9am - 2pm to ampm, with one 25 minute intermission for lunch.

This was the case until when the schedule was changed once again. In April of , the North Campus TV studio was completed and opened for use by the faculty and television-radio classes.

The college, LTJC as it was known, was established in hopes of providing students further experience and education without making them travel great distances. In , Mr. Universe Joe Abbenda visited LT gym classes to talk to the boys about fitness and weightlifting.

In the fall of , LT welcomed its first female teacher. At the time, there was only one other teacher at LT. The first athletic opportunity for girls at LT was intramural basketball in In , the girls' volleyball team won the state championship for the first time in LT history against Barrington High School. The girls' volleyball team has also won the state title in and In December of , the Rifle Club became one of the largest clubs at LT with a total of members.

South Campus was opened for the school year and was occupied by the freshmen class for the first time. While the school was not fully completed, the main academic wings were ready; however, the gym, biology classrooms, etc. On February 21, , Otto von Habsburg, the final heir to the throne of Austria-Hungary and member of the European Parliament, gave his forceful talk, "Christian Democracy or Communism" in the North Campus auditorium.

In January of , the Board purchased a three manual organ from Moeller Organ, the country's leading organ manufacturer. The organ was installed during the spring of and was used for the commencement ceremony.

In February of , the Chicago Symphony Orchestra played three concerts at LT, their first time to play at a high school in the group's proud history. In September of , C. With his donation, volumes were purchased. In , it was determined that classes would be fifty minutes long.

To aide the war efforts, they purchased a North American P Fighter Jet with the money they raised. In , LION polled all classes about compulsory military service for boys. In , with the heightening of the Cold War, LT began preparing for the possible threat of an atomic bomb.

In addition to fire, tornado and other safety drills, LT students and staff had "A-Bomb" drills. In the event that the school would be in danger of a bomb strike, a continuous long and short ringing bell would sound and students would leave classrooms, sit in the nearest hallway, and cover their heads with clothing.

On September 8, , the Junior Class Board changed its format and the direction of the board. Before, Class Boards were election-only clubs where students were only allowed to join if they were elected by their peers. The Junior Class Board decided to open the club to everyone, with only officers being elected. Other class boards followed suit and this is the format of class boards today.

On October 9, , spirited LT students took part in a 45 minute bike ride to Hinsdale Central for the football game. The bikers took up four solid blocks. On October 12, , work on North Campus building addition began with a groundbreaking ceremony led by Superintendent Dr.

Willett, with Board President C. Vial excavating the first shovel of dirt. The addition added roughly thirty-five new classrooms, an auditorium with the seating capacity of 1,, a community room with small stage, and a gymnasium, which was created solely for the use of girls' athletics.

On October 4, , the United States Marine Band performed three concerts in the LTHS auditorium—one for high school students, one for grade school students, and one in the evening for adults.
